Breakthrough medical technology brings dynamic solution for eye sight correction. If you are concerned by your appearance when you wear glasses and maintaining contact lenses seems like a demanding issue to you laser vision correction is the absolute way out for you.  Laser vision correction offers eye sight correction for those people who have eye disorders related to refraction, also known as refractive errors. Myopia or nearsightedness, Hyperopia or farsightedness, and Astigmatism or distorted vision all can be corrected easily now with the help of this highly developed technology. There are several methods of surgical refractive error correction available in today’s world but among these all laser eye correction is swiftly becoming the most popular and high tech method. The American Academy of Ophthalmology in San Francisco claims this procedure have an incomparable level of exactitude and inevitability.

The basic of laser vision correction involves the reshaping of the affected eye’s cornea by using laser equipment. When corrected through laser. The reshaped cornea of the eye can focus well than when the eye could not focus properly due to the defect in the eye.

In October 1995 the FDA permitted the very first laser therapy to correct mild to moderate myopia to commence but only under the supervision of completely trained professionals who can handle refractive error correction surgeries as well as laser equipment operation and calibration. Two different methods of laser eye correction are being practiced these days. The first one being photorefractive keratectomy or PRK and the other one known as Laser in situ Keratomileusis or LASIK.
According to the ophthalmologists PKR is a very quick procedure that is done in outpatient and takes only a few minutes with a recovery period of three days. However, many doctors claim that Lasik is better than PKR because it is more precise and advanced and a little more invasive. It takes a little more time and the recovery time is around a week but candidates’ vision is found to be better than PKR candidates.

Although laser vision correction is thought to be a miracle therapy that would take the glasses or contact lenses off your eyes completely, this is not true actually. The doctor will guide you about what to expect after laser eye correction. The doctor would go for 20/20 vision for you that would allow you to drive, do everyday chores etc without wearing glasses or contact lenses. However, for reading purpose you would definitely need reading glasses.

More than 90% of the people who opted for laser vision correction were satisfied and there visual acuity was notices from 20/20 to 20/40 but there are other reasons that might make you unhappy after the surgery. If you have a very high myopia that the chances of your eye correction are less and you may not get the 20/20 visual acuity. The chances of full recovery and perfect visual acuity (20/20) are varying in different individuals. Diabetes, vascular diseases, autoimmune disease, old age, low immunity and poor healing can affect the outcome of this procedure greatly.
